Vitamin D3 ‘the sunlight hormone’

Vitamin D3 is converted by the kidneys into the hormone calcitriol, the active form of vitamin D3. Calcitriol enhances calcium and phosphorous absorption, stimulates the synthesis of osteocalcin (an important structural protein in bone), and is involved in proper cell differentiation (changing of cell function), including in prostate cells and immune function.

Vitamin D has shown preventative benefits for many diseases, including heart disease and diabetes, and can even reduce chronic pain. But when it comes to cancer, vitamin D is its worst enemy! Theories linking vitamin D deficiency to cancer have been tested and confirmed in more than 200 epidemiological studies, and understanding of its physiological basis stems from more than 2,500 laboratory studies.

One particularly noteworthy study was completed by Joan Lappe and Robert Heaney in 2007. A group of menopausal women were given enough vitamin D to raise their serum levels to 40 ng/ml. These women experienced a 77 percent reduction in the incidence of all cancers, across the board, after just four years. The remarkable thing is, 40 ng/ml is a relatively modest level. The latest information suggests the serum level “sweet spot” for vitamin D is 50 to 70 ng/ml. To have such stunning findings at just 40 ng/ml underscores just how powerful and important vitamin D is to your body’s optimal functioning.

Some Vitamin K2 rich foods: Spinach, Swiss Chard,Turnip Greens, Mustard Greens, Brussels Sprouts, Parsley, Romaine Lettuce, Broccoli, Asparagus, Cucumber, Collard Greens, Celery, Green Beans, Leeks, Cabbage, Basil, Thyme, Sage and Kale.
Vitamin D3 has co-factors that the body needs in order to utilize vitamin D properly. They are:

  • Magnesium
  • Zinc
  • Vitamin K2
  • Boron
  • a tiny amount of vitamin A

Suggested Use

1 to 3 capsules per day with food depending on need = 4,000 to 12,000 IU

Check Your Vitamin D Levels

It is recommended that your Vitamin D levels are checked at the medical center. The window you’re shooting for is 50 to 70ng/ml. More studies are needed to tease out the benefits of getting your serum level above 50, and 60, and 70 — in terms of what specific benefits occur

Above 40, you receive great cancer benefits. But there may very well be reasons to push your level even higher. Vit D levels take 3 months to stabilise after diet or sun exposure.

This Vitamin D3 product contains Vitamin K2 to help direct calcium into the bones rather than end up in the joints, other co-factors that the body needs in order to utilize vitamin D properly are: magnesium, zinc, boron and a tiny amount of vitamin A.

Vitamin D Clinical Research

“In vitro and animal studies indicate that vitamin D may have anti-cancer benefits, including against progression and metastasis, against a wide spectrum of cancers. Supporting an anti-cancer effect of vitamin D is the ability of many cells to convert 25(OH)D, the primary circulating form of vitamin D, into 1,25(OH)2D, the most active form of this vitamin.” The epidemiology of vitamin D and cancer incidence and mortality

D3 as a Mediator For Anti-Tumor Activity

“Telomerase is an essential enzyme that counteracts the telomere attrition accompanying DNA replication during cell division. Regulation of the promoter activity of the gene encoding its catalytic subunit, the telomerase reverse transcriptase, is established as the dominant mechanism conferring the high telomerase activity in proliferating cells, such as embryonic stem and cancer cells.

This study reveals a new mechanism of telomerase regulation through non-coding small RNA by showing that microRNA-498 (miR-498) induced by 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 (1,25(OH)(2)D(3)) decreases the mRNA expression of the human telomerase reverse transcriptase” D3 suppresses telomerase expression and human cancer growth through microRNA-498
